Kraken FAQ

Does Kraken report to the IRS?

Yes. Kraken issues IRS tax forms to US customers, including form 1099-da for sales on kraken.com and kraken pro (from tax year 2025); and form 1099-misc if you earn $600 or more in rewards. The IRS receives a copy, so the activity on those forms needs to appear on your tax return.

Will my Kraken 1099-DA show cost basis?

Only for crypto bought on Kraken on or after January 1, 2026 and held there until you sold it. For crypto bought before 2026 or transferred in from another wallet or exchange, Kraken is not required to report cost basis, and you must calculate it yourself.
