Kraken brings unified spot and futures collateral to EEA

Kraken Pro users in the EEA can now use a Unified Wallet, allowing spot, margin, and Earn balances to serve as futures collateral without transfers.

Kraken brings unified spot and futures collateral to EEA

Kraken launched Unified Wallet for EEA clients on Kraken Pro on October 16, giving eligible users one shared pool of collateral across spot, margin and futures trading, according to the company’s Kraken Blog announcement.

The practical change is the removal of an account-management step. Kraken says users can “Put your existing spot, margin, and earn balances to work as futures collateral, with no transfers in between.” Previously, the fact sheet says, users typically managed separate wallets for those activities and had to move funds manually before collateralizing futures positions.

That matters most for active traders who switch between spot exposure and derivatives. Existing eligible holdings can count toward futures margin automatically, including gold (XAU), while more than 40 cryptocurrencies plus USD, EUR and XAU can serve as collateral under Unified Wallet.

Kraken’s own account is that the product brings “your spot, margin, Earn, and futures balances together into one smart, flexible wallet.” The stated aim is higher capital efficiency and a simpler trading experience. The desk’s read is narrower: removing transfers reduces friction at the point where a trader wants to open or support a futures position, which could increase futures activity by making more of a user’s existing balance immediately usable.

No futures-volume increase is reported in the announcement, so the effect on trading activity remains unquantified. The change is available now to EEA clients on Kraken Pro, but the fact sheet does not specify whether every EEA account or asset is eligible.

The product also leaves a regulatory split inside the same interface. Kraken’s crypto spot services are provided by Payward Europe Solutions Limited, regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Its derivatives products are provided by Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), licence no 342/17.

For readers tracking Kraken’s broader Pro product set, Crypto Desk previously covered the company’s Prime consolidation and TradingView execution integration. Unified Wallet adds a different layer: it changes how balances are applied across products, allowing spot, margin, Earn and futures positions to draw on the same collateral source.

The competitive implication is direct. Whether that translates into more futures volume will depend on usage, but the mechanism is live: eligible holdings can support futures positions without first being moved to a separate wallet.
