Kraken-MEXC France deal routes clients through Kraken

Kraken expands its partnership with MEXC, referring French clients to Kraken as MEXC winds down its operations in France, extending a Dutch arrangement.

Kraken-MEXC France deal routes clients through Kraken

Kraken’s November 6, 2026 announcement says MEXC is winding down its French operations and referring French clients to Kraken. It extends an existing arrangement that had previously covered the Netherlands.

MEXC’s French clients are being directed to Kraken as MEXC winds down that market. The announcement does not give a completion date or say how balances, open positions or account records will be handled.

Kraken says it has held MiCA authorization through the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) since June 2025, a MiFID authorization from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) covering derivatives and various financial instruments, and an e-money authorization from the CBI. The announcement does not say MEXC is supplying a French license or local operating infrastructure.

Which Kraken entity handles which service matters for users choosing between spot, derivatives, and fiat. Payward Ireland Limited (PIL) and Payward Europe Solutions Limited (PESL), both trading as Kraken, are regulated by the CBI; Kraken says e-money services run through PIL while spot trading runs through PESL. For derivatives and other financial instruments, Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited (PEDSL-CY) holds a CySEC authorization under licence number 342/17 and is registered in Cyprus under number HE 356603. Those are the permissions Kraken lists alongside the French expansion. The announcement does not specify which products transferred MEXC users will be able to access.

Kraken also says it supports more than 600 crypto assets and more than 1,000 tokenized assets, with EUR fiat rails and quarterly independently verified Proof of Reserves — stated product and reporting features, not figures the November 6 announcement independently establishes.

The Netherlands deal provides the only timeline reference point. The France agreement is explicitly framed as an extension of that earlier partnership, but the date the Netherlands arrangement was announced is not given in the November 6 document, so the age of the underlying commercial relationship can’t be pinned down from the announcement alone.

The companies had signaled broader cooperation one month earlier. On October 5, 2026, Cryptopolitan reported that MEXC and Payward had signaled an intent to explore broader collaboration ahead of TOKEN2049, with a panel on October 7 featuring MEXC CEO Vugar Usi Zade and Payward Co-CEO Arjun Sethi. Usi Zade said, “Users increasingly expect broader market access without more complexity.” That is 32 days before the November 6 France announcement, calculated from the October 5 report date and the November 6 announcement date.

For French users, the announcement identifies Kraken as the proposed destination while MEXC winds down locally.

What remains unresolved is how the transition actually unfolds. The November 6 announcement confirms the referral and the wind-down but says nothing about when MEXC’s French operations end completely, or how open positions, balances, verification records, and product access will be handled in the interim.
