Arbitrum proposes raising two L1-pricing parameters ahead of Glamsterdam

Arbitrum proposes updating two L1-pricing parameters, parentGasFloorPerToken and perBatchGasCharge, on Arbitrum One and Nova in response to Ethereum's Glamsterdam hard fork.

Arbitrum proposes raising two L1-pricing parameters ahead of Glamsterdam

The constitutional proposal on the Arbitrum Foundation Forum is a parameter change, not an ArbOS release. It would updateparentGasFloorPerToken andperBatchGasCharge on both Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova in response to Glamsterdam’s effect on the Ethereum gas costs of posting Arbitrum chain batches.

The numbers:parentGasFloorPerToken goes from 10 to 16, a 60% rise calculated as(16 - 10) / 10 × 100.perBatchGasCharge goes from 210,000 to 480,000 — a 128.57% increase, calculated as(480,000 - 210,000) / 210,000 × 100. Both figures come directly from the proposal.

The stated basis for those changes is measured post-Glamsterdam batch costs. The goal is keeping Arbitrum’s transaction-cost accounting and batch-poster reimbursement aligned with the new Layer 1 cost structure once Glamsterdam reshapes what it actually costs to post batches to Ethereum.

The proposal establishes the mechanism for changing the inputs. It does not provide a new end-user fee estimate.

Execution is gated. The forum proposal authorizes the updates through theArbOwner precompile and includes an onchainGlamsterdamForkGateAction — a check that blocks execution until Glamsterdam is live on Ethereum mainnet.

The relevant test event ran on Sepolia on October 6. CoinDesk reported that it raised Sepolia’s gas limit from 60 million to 200 million — a 233.33% jump, calculated as(200 million - 60 million) / 60 million × 100. That 200-million ceiling applies to Sepolia only and does not set Ethereum’s final mainnet gas limit.

The forum proposal is explicit that the underlying L1-pricing algorithm stays unchanged and that no ArbOS upgrade is involved. The change is confined to the two named parameters on Arbitrum One and Nova, held behind the Ethereum activation check until that check clears.
