Tether’s MDK draws 15 mining-industry adopters

Tether's Mining Development Kit (MDK) has attracted 15 mining industry adopters, with a stable 1.0 release targeted for the end of 2026.

Tether says 15 mining companies, ASIC manufacturers, and pools have committed to its Mining Development Kit (MDK), an open-source framework meant to make mining infrastructure interoperable and support AI-driven automation. The company published the announcement on October 24 in its primary release.

According to Tether, the participating firms will build and maintain integrations with the framework.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, framed the project around software controlling physical machines rather than monitoring them. “We are entering a period where software will increasingly operate physical infrastructure, not simply report on it,” he said. “That does not work at scale if every machine speaks a different language.” He added that MDK would let companies retain ownership of their technology while giving developers and autonomous systems a shared foundation to build on.

The development timeline is specific. Tether says MDK is scheduled to reach version 0.11 at the Plan Ð Forum in Lugano on October 23–24, 2026; the first stable 1.0 release is targeted for the end of 2026. Tether’s QVAC mining agent already runs directly on MDK, per the announcement.

That timetable is the second dated marker in Tether’s mining-software push. On February 2, 2026, Tether open-sourced its Bitcoin Mining Operating System (MOS) at the Plan Ð Forum in San Salvador — that event also introduced the Mining SDK, with the stated aim of unifying mining hardware, energy, and data management, according to CryptoTimes. Using the Feb. 2 date reported by CryptoTimes and the Oct. 24 date in Tether’s announcement, the releases are 264 days apart.

Ardoino’s broadest claim is one of operational range: that the same operating system could serve “a small operator running a handful of machines” and a full-scale industrial site, without depending on centralized third-party software. In Tether’s telling, a shared interface would let automation tools work across different mining systems while leaving technology ownership with each operator.

At publication, BTC$80,715.00▼1.18% traded at $80,638, down 1.2% over 24 hours, while USDT$0.9991▲0.01% traded at $0.999082, flat over the same period, according to CoinGecko.
