Strategy Adds $76M in Bitcoin, Reaches 846,000 BTC
Strategy added 950 BTC for $75.7 million, bringing its total Bitcoin holdings to 846,000 BTC, approximately 4.03% of the total supply.
Strategy acquired 950 BTC for approximately $75.7 million between Sept. 14 and Sept. 20, taking its total holdings to 846,000 BTC, according to The Block’s report on the purchase. The company paid an average of $79,670 per coin for the latest buy.
The new purchase puts Strategy’s holdings at approximately 4.03% of Bitcoin’s capped supply. The calculation is 846,000 BTC divided by 21,000,000 BTC, multiplied by 100.
Strategy’s total holdings are worth around $71.9 billion, based on the figures reported by The Block. The company’s stated average purchase price for the full 846,000 BTC is $75,416 per coin, with total costs of approximately $63.8 billion including fees and expenses.
A separate CoinDesk account of the Monday morning regulatory filing says the 950 BTC purchase was funded through the sale of $80.1 million of common stock. The remaining proceeds, according to that filing, went toward repurchasing $174 million of Strategy’s STRC preferred stock and adding to cash reserves.
The funding disclosures therefore identify two parts of the transaction. The filing ties the purchase to common-stock sales, while The Block reported that the latest acquisitions were funded through Strategy’s USD Cash reserve. Neither account changes the size of the purchase: 950 BTC for about $75.7 million.
The same filing puts Strategy’s total acquisition cost at $63.81 billion and its average price at $74,417 per coin. That average differs from The Block’s reported $75,416 figure. The two sources agree on the 846,000 BTC total, but the average-price figures should be treated as a disclosed discrepancy rather than combined into a single number.
The balance sheet actions extend beyond the bitcoin purchase. Strategy repurchased 1.77 million STRC preferred shares last week for around $174 million. It also used $57.4 million from its USD Reserve to pay dividends on preferred stock and interest on outstanding debt.
As of Sept. 20, Strategy reported $5.04 billion in its USD Reserve and $1.05 billion in USD Cash. Those figures matter for holders watching how the company allocates liquidity: the latest BTC acquisition added to the corporate bitcoin position, while preferred-share repurchases and debt-related payments drew on available funds.
The immediate exposure is split across Strategy’s capital stack.
Strategy’s stock gained 16.4% last week and closed Friday at $153.92. Bitcoin rose 5.3% over the same period. CoinDesk also reported a 7% pre-market gain for MSTR after the purchase was disclosed. Those moves provide market context, but they do not establish that the acquisition caused either price change.
This is Strategy’s first weekly bitcoin purchase in about three weeks, according to the event summary. The company completed the latest acquisition on Sept. 20 and announced it on Sept. 21, bringing the disclosed holdings total to 846,000 BTC.
