Tether backs EFY Finance for institutional stablecoin use in Latin America

Tether invested in EFY Finance to boost institutional stablecoin use in Latin America, integrating USD₮ and USA₮ into EFY's payments and custody infrastructure across 17 countries.

Tether backs EFY Finance for institutional stablecoin use in Latin America

Tether announced an investment in EFY Finance on October 13, part of the company’s seed round. Tether’s announcement frames this as pushing institutional stablecoin usage deeper into Latin America and threading that activity into the region’s traditional financial plumbing. No dollar amount was disclosed. Post-money valuation wasn’t either.

EFY Finance does stablecoin-based cross-border payments, accounts, and digital-asset custody across Latin America. The company settles to local accounts in 17 countries, holds a Digital Asset Service Provider license in El Salvador, and serves more than 25,000 active individual and business accounts, with stated presence in Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, and Ecuador.

Tether’s announcement puts Latin American cryptocurrency transaction volume at nearly $1.5 trillion between July 2022 and June 2025 — averaged out, that’s roughly $41.7 billion per month across that 36-month span. Stablecoin purchases now account for more than half of all exchange purchases in the region, the announcement says. These figures describe the addressable market Tether is invoking to justify backing EFY. They reflect regional exchange activity, not EFY’s own business volume or a revenue forecast for either company.

Both executives describe the deal as closing a gap that already exists. The supplied record doesn’t identify any prior comparable Tether investment in Latin American settlement infrastructure.

USA₮ deserves its own paragraph. It’s a U.S.-dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., with Tether supporting its launch. EFY’s regulatory standing in El Salvador and its existing account base are documented in the announcement; the specific regulatory frameworks governing its other markets are not.
