Coinbase restricts WMTX-USD pair amid wider service disruptions
Coinbase restricted WMTX-USD trading and experienced SOL transaction delays amid wider service disruptions, while Kraken paused WMTX funding and trading.
Coinbase’s status page logged the start of a site-performance investigation at 16:21 PDT on September 21, flagging Coinbase Website, Coinbase Mobile, and Coinbase Advanced Trade as affected — meaning customers could find themselves unable to buy, sell, trade, or view balances across all three. A follow-up update at 16:58 PDT said the issue was still under investigation. At 17:23 PDT, the exchange recorded a fix and said it was monitoring the result. That’s 62 minutes from first flag to claimed resolution, running from 16:21 PDT to 17:23 PDT.
Coinbase implemented a fix and is actively watching whether it holds.
But the incident isn’t closed. A separate Coinbase status notice covers delayed sends and receives for SOL, and a further separate notice covers the WMTX-USD trading pair being moved to limit-only mode. The status entries don’t state whether the SOL delays and the WMTX restriction share a cause with the broader site issue, and no resolution timeline appears for either.
On Kraken, the picture for WMTX is also constrained. According to Kraken Status, Kraken has paused World Mobile Token (WMTX) funding and trading entirely. Neither status page confirms a common cause, and neither notice provides a timestamp that would allow a direct comparison with Coinbase’s WMTX restriction. The same token sitting under restrictions at two separate exchanges makes a token- or network-level issue a live possibility that the available notices simply don’t rule out. A trader trying to move WMTX between exchanges, or looking for an alternative execution venue, faces Kraken’s full pause on WMTX funding and trading alongside Coinbase’s limit-only restriction on the WMTX-USD pair. Neither exchange has published an explanation in its respective notice.
Meanwhile, CoinGecko has SSOL$116.21▲3.72% priced at $116.76, up 4.4% over 24 hours. That number is market context and nothing more — it doesn’t clear Coinbase’s transaction backlog or say anything about when SOL sends and receives will normalize.
What’s unresolved: the SOL delay has no stated end time, WMTX-USD has no stated reason for the restriction, and neither exchange has explained why the same token is under restrictions at both venues.
